How To Volunteer
Look
Look at MJF’s available volunteer opportunities. You can find a listing of current opportunities by visiting an MJF office at one of the three law schools or by checking the “Explore Volunteer Opportunities” page on this website.
Talk
Talk with an MJF staff member. We will discuss your interests, goals, etc., and are happy to talk to you in great detail about different volunteer opportunities. We will give you volunteer information, explain expectations, and answer any questions you might have.
Commit
Commit to a volunteer project or role only if you feel confident that you will enjoy it, learn from it, and fulfill the expectations for that placement. Your MJF Staff Attorney will help you get connected.
Email your school’s MJF Staff Attorney once you begin a volunteer project or placement.
Log
Log your volunteer hours in your MJF student account.
MJF Student Chapters
Whatever your specific interests are, joining the MJF Student Chapter at your school is a good way to meet fellow students who are dedicated to public interest law or pro bono service and to take part in fun activities that will challenge you, broaden your horizons, and expand the scope of your legal education.
At each law school in the state, the MJF Student Chapter:
- Raises money during the year to support one or more summer clerkships in public interest law for fellow student(s). These design-your-own clerkships provide classmates with additional options for paid summer employment.
- Coordinates group volunteer opportunities which allow the entire chapter to take part in a law-related volunteer project together.
- Hosts events such as panel and roundtable discussions, networking opportunities, and training sessions on professional skills.
